Hello all,

So i wanted to get this probiotic thread going. I have to say, that ever since taking probiotics, my IBS has been A LOT better. I hate it that doctors don't even mention this...they start you off with drugs at first.

The ones that i have been taking, that is INCREDIBLE is Florastor. I take one in the morning and one at night. And also, I take Culturelly once a day.

I am telling you, this saved my life...if you have not tried probiotics, then give it a try!

I started with probiotics in August 2007, and they made a big difference! My "full" regimen is two prebiotic pills and one probiotic with every meal, although I find that it weller times, one dose a day is good enough.

Do you suffer from IBS-D or IBS-C? I'm really desperate for a solution for my constipation and excess (and foul) gas.

I have IBS-A (alternating variety), although that's not currently a choice so I selected both. I would say that roughly 80% of my problems are of the IBS-D variety. When I started taking the probiotics, I noticed very quick improvement in the frequency of my bowel movements (I was have 15+ a day) and the "quality" of the stool itself.

for sure......porbiotics put the "good" bacteria back in your bowels. We need them to help smoothly move things along...it creates a mucus-like coating that we excrete when we have a bowel movement......especially with diareah. Diareah will deplete it all in one shot! SO probiotics are a great way to re-stablize that :)

I'm lactose intolerant, so yogurt hasn't been an option- I found out about the LI after my problems got worse when I was having yogurt at every meal!

My friend told me about Probiotic's over a year ago and what a difference it made in her life with her IBS_D. I tried it and it helped a little with my IBS-C. Good luck and it never hurts to try with IBS.

Remember that there are many different strands of probiotics, some may work for you and others may not. I tried a few, and Florastor was just amazing. I remember trying Activia yogurt and it didn't really work for me.

Yah I agree: i don't think activia is the best choice as a source of probiotics. It's fine for "normal" people, but all in all, it's just to maintain bowel health, not to fix things lol. I eat it anyway cause I'm gonna eat yogurt regardless lol

Im taking Primal Defense currently. I brought it up to my doc and he said it was fine to take but I needed to stay on Activia yogurt and load up on fiber. Im glad that is working for you. I still have abdominal pain and bloating most every day.

actually i don't know if it is IBS coz my doc says i have mal-absorption everytimg i visit him. I am really confused. '?????' So now i am on Folic acid, Yogut and Tetracycline which i have to continue for 6 months.

Has he ruled out Crohns, UC, and Celiac? Sounds like a bacterial infection. I more or less had that but not diagnosed as that. 4 years ago a doc said it was UC but after 2 more years of second opinions by 2 different doctors it was changed to IBS. It only visually looked like UC to the first doc but my biopsy was normal but he still stuck with UC. So it must have been a bacterial infection.
