Hi, I'm new to this site but I was just wondering if anyone has ibs but also food allergies/intolerences? I have ibs but I feel like I may have some food allergy but I know it's not wheat or lactose because I already have been tested for that but it just seems like everything I eat I get so much gas or loose bowels. I read an article about a fructose tolerence? Anyone heard of this?.. I just want to feel better and the medications have terrible side effects they make me extremely drowsy and a dry mouth. Also, has anyone been to the ibs treatment center in washington or know anytihng about it? Thanks for any help!!!

I recently discovered that my IBS-C is related to some the foods I eat. I have learned the hard way. I am lactose interant. The foods that I am allergic are: any cow's product, caffine, etc.

I have hunted to discover what alternatives I could use. One product is tofutti. I have found they have milk free ice cream, sour cream, and cream cheese. Since most cheeses are cow's milk based, I discovered I can use goats milk, sheep's milk. I just found out I could use coconut milk, I need to find where I buy this. Another thing I discovered is that if I drink too much, I have an IBS attack where I am.

It sounds like my IBS is very similar to yours. I think I have read somewhere about a fructose intolerance, but I know that personally I have to watch my intake of any fruit except bananas because too much gives me diarrhea/really bad gas or both. Also anything with sucrose or high fructose corn syrup bothers my stomach, so I stay away from sugar free gum, gatorade, and processed foods. I have felt for some time if I could just figure out what food I'm sensitive to I would feel a lot better, and I've done elimination diets in the past, but I seem to be missing something and can't figure out what it is. I do know I can eat bananas and avocados and rice anytime I want to and those have never given me symptoms, but I can't see myself living on 3 foods the rest of my life! Maybe you could try to eliminate fruit out of your diet for a week and see if that helps?

I have lactose intolerance. Sometimes I can't tell what symptoms are from that and what are from IBS. Sometimes when I'm following a completely lactose-free diet and then I indulge and have some cheese or something, it actually relieves IBS symptoms...isn't that odd?

I can totally agree with this.

Apparently, ig-G allergens (the type that aren't instantly obvious, such as rashes, breathing problems etc.) stay in your blood stream for up to 2 weeks, so it's really hard to tell what causes the problem.

...and I also read that eating certain foods that you may be allergic to can actually make the symptoms better by 'resetting' the allergic cycle and starting it from the beggining again, therefore giving you a few days rest before unleashing their evil power.

How on earth are we supposed to manage this?!

I hear so many people say "I had IBS, but all you need to do is watch what foods you eat".

...If only it was that easy!

I recently had blood work for Celiac's disease, but it was negative. I read somewhere, however, that there are other types of gluten intolerance that some Celiac tests don't test for.

I think my intolerances are just if I eat to much of one type of food, then I get a reaction, can't be sure but thats my best guess!

Hi,

I've just recently done an allergy test...here's the results:

Ok, so I thought that i'd spend nearly £300 on a private lab test for ig-G allergens to see if there was anything obvious that could be causing my IBS-D.

I took the pre-test to see if I did have allergens in my blood, and it was postive.

So I pays my money and waits my results.

Bingo! : Cow's milk (all dairy products), Tuna, Lentils, Turkey and yeast.

To cut a rather stressful story short....my IBS-D has been ten times worse since I cut those foods out of my diet - and i've cut them out 100%!

...Just be aware and do your research. Read the small print (which I was only aware of AFTER I had received the results) Just because an allergen is shown on the report, does not mean that it is the cause of any problems that you may be experiencing.

Great! an expensive lesson learned...but at least it's another thing crossed off my mental list of 'things to do to try and beat this mutha'.

Weird...I don't even know where to go for tests like this. Have you gotten a handle on anything yet?
