I have been eating a Paleo Diet for many years and it has completely removed my IBS symptoms. There seems to be some interest in it so I am starting a group. I have IBS-D and have had it for 46 years. I have a lot of experience! Ask me or visit my website for answers.

Basically on a paleo diet you do not eat cereals, legumes, dairy foods (except butter) or root veggies. You eat largely fruits, above ground veggies, nuts, oils, meat, fish, seafood, eggs, butter, herbs, spices, teas, alcohol. It is a high fat, low fibre diet just like your ancestors ate a few thousand years ago. They did not know about IBS as they never got it. It works by removing the foods that cause IBS and you eat sufficient fat to keep well.

If you are overweight you will lose weight and become slim on it. Its a fat burner or ketogenic diet. Your muscles get much stronger with more stamina, energy and no IBS. All you need to do is eat it.

More trials of vegetable soups containing meat and fish show that indigestion is worse than I thought. The next version of the Paleo is likely to remove cooked proteins from vegetable meals.

The first draft of the Paleo diet is published on the website...

It is not hydrophillic colloids (gelatine etc.) that are important at all! It is the minerals extracted from the bones, meat and veggies into the broth, that maintains hydration in cold weather. This is why psyllium husks did not work.

I have published recipes for the summer Paleo diet on the website. These are raw fruit meals and raw fish meals. This is all you need for warm weather.

Well if you are in a city, its hard to find an animal carcase and boil up a cauldron of broth. Its much easier to take a psyllium tablet, I agree. So I am trying the easy way. I have started with two level teaspoons of Metamucil, three times a day. This is much less then the box recommends. Will let you know if this is adequate. I am also taking 3 heaped teaspoons of gelatine daily and a little pectin in the form of Jam. I suspect though that real broth will be much better. Imaging being able to boil up a pot full of bones etc. with vinegar, onions, salt and herbs, then eating this (winter) with cooked meat and plenty of fat. YUM.
I am going to do it. Take action. YES. Being below par is no longer my bag.

I will read the article but I do like the idea of just being able to take powders or a tablet. You can buy psyllium husks as a tablet. How much do you need to take though? Or how much broth! ?

I note that Lepicol contains Inulin which is the carbo found in Onions and other non-starchy root veggies. We cannot digest it. Another reason for Broth made with meat, bones and these veggies.

I have some metamucil, gelatine and pectin. Have started eating them today. The article Broth is Beautiful in the Hydrophilic Colloid discussion is worth reading.
