Hope is of no use unless you back it up with ACTION. You can hope that things will improve... it keeps you sane when IBS continually bashes you... but without some action hope is powerless. There is NO cure for IBS, but that does not mean hopelessne…

About Me:
Feel free to add me to friends!!!

I am a second year college student...and am suffering from leaky gas since i was 12-13 and now i am 19 and the problem is still there,, i really cant tell people my problems because most people will think that gas is not a serious problem, but i know what i have been through...i am on the verge of complete destruction...my college grades are dropping like hell and i am in constant depression... i really want to do good in college, but the gas always gives me low self esteen and most of the time i am worried that no one should feel too uncomfortable with the smell, i always shower my self with Axe and calvin klien perfumes before i go to class, but i still have to secretly used perfume every 5 minutes in class so that the smell doesnt become too uncomfortable....i have few freinds, whom i dont feel like hanging out with cause they always talk about grades and the future,, which is something i am afraid about, i have recently started to control my diet after looking up my symptoms online...the doctors so far have refused to acknowledge that i even have problems... i have a lot of hope that the diet change will work...
Occupation/Work:
I go to college, second year, quit my part-time job, might start another job soon, need the money to pay for college
What do you do for fun?
my fun in life is limited to the computer, the gas problems have pretty much isolated me from society, i still go outside to play sports once in a while becasue i dont want to be in depression and i dont want to be a computer bum...i feel ashamed that i even waste time chatting, i have so many goals in life, but eveytime a take an aciton towards fulfilling them, i am faced with the ugly reality of my disease....
How long have you lived with IBS?
Constant leaky gas, that doesnt stop even for a second, basically if some sits with me for a few minutes, they will start to smell something bad... more then 7 year almost 8... on top of that i have a few other diseases which further destroys me, basically its a 24/7 problem, one disease makes my day hell, the other makes my night hell wow how cool, i wonder whats next....
When did you realize you had IBS?
I dont know if its IBS, but what else can it be?
Most embarassing IBS moment:
TOO MANY TO SAY, sometimes it lasts more then an hour, which completely shatters me emotionally, no emotional connection to any humans anymore.. :(

basically have to go through it eveyday, not a sigle day of peace, unless i isolate myself and lock my self in home,
How do you do treat your IBS?
i dont know what to do, i just try to stay away from trigger foods,

Do you have a GP? Maybe they can recommend a good GI. Where do you live? My new GI is pretty good. I'm on Long Island. I think you said you're in Manhattan though. There are a lot of good GIs there.

I would look for someone new, definitely...if they can't even give you a real diagnosis...

I'm not sure if the probiotics are working yet...I took one for a few months a few years ago but it didn't work. I'm on a different one now for the past month. I don't think it's done much yet, but my GI said to give it a chance. Different types might do different things for different people.

Have you asked about lactose intolerance? If you are, yogurt's probably not a good idea. It would also explain a lot of the gas issues. You need to go to a GI and ask about that plus other food allergies, then ask if you should get an endoscopy and colonsocopy.

Yea I'm a journalism student at Syracuse University. I'm taking the semester off to find a diagnosis. I'm a senior.

I hope your year goes well.

Could you tell me your medical history? I noticed you've said your not sure if it's IBS you have. What has your GI said? What tests have you had?

Hi, I am new to this site (just joined tonight). I have sent a request to you to add you as a friend. Although my profile is vague, I knew as soon as I saw your post about leaky gas that I needed to speak to you. I too suffer from leaky gas. I know EXACTLY what you are going through. This is something very difficult to open up to friends and family with but I find it comforting to talk to people on the internet about it. I have found many sites that deal with our specific problem. I can share them with you. I have also exchanged emails with people from the sites I have found. People with our problem are everywhere, yet doctors don't seem to understand the situation. I hope to hear from you soon.

I know what you mean about trying to avoid to be in those situations. Me too I have spend so much time alone for the past 2 years because I hate having to deal with judgemental people. If saw a handicaped person you would not laugh to their face. SO why laugh at somebody who has a digestive problem!!!

Sorry to hear you have so much going on in your life. Is all ok? Good stuff on the change of diet, it means you are on the right track.
Yes I did enjoy the movie but I must say I went with girlfriends and I did not appreciate the laughs if you know what I mean... I mean they tried to be somewhat suttle but I could tell still...

Oh my god,

I have to tell you this. I just came back from a movie with gorlfriends and I am mortified. I just want the earth to swallow me. My stomach was acting out and there was nothing I could do about it. I woke up this morning with migraine so I had to take Advil for it. Unfortunately it does it everytime, it really did upset my tummy and the result was uncrontrollable passing gas. I feel so bad...

Thanks for the advice, that is what I am doing. I am taking a lot of stuff and trying to workout more often and hopefully that would help. I do not have complete freedom though as I am stuying for a professional exam in early June that requires several months of stuying. What else is new with you.

well, it all worked out.. I found out that many of those symptoms that I had at work came from stress, so I found a job that was closer to home, and I have access to a toilet at all time (I never work alone). The funny thing is that I dont get more sick or any thing then I would else do!! Its funny how stress can really set it of!
